The VR training application developed for Autostrade per l’Italia is designed to simulate the complex and high-risk scenario of narrowing the overtaking lane within active highway environments. This operational phase requires precise coordination, technical knowledge, and strict adherence to safety protocols. Even minor procedural errors, miscalculations, or distractions can generate dangerous situations with severe consequences for both road workers and drivers. The immersive experience recreates realistic traffic flows, environmental conditions, and worksite configurations, allowing operators to practice correct positioning of signage, barriers, service vehicles, and protective systems. Every element of the simulation is built to reflect real operational dynamics, including vehicle speed, driver behavior variability, visibility constraints, and environmental stress factors.
